About EHE

 

Emmanual Health Education, Inc. (EHE) is an organization that designs and delivers prostate health education  to increase awareness, and prostate screening to decrease incidents and high rates of mortality. EHE facilitates  quarterly support groups that foster a comfortable autonomous environment among prostate cancer survivors  to share individual experiences and educational learning experiences about prostate cancer health in various  community venues including but not limited to barber shops, beauty salons, community centers, faith-based  organizations, and local agencies. 


Vision

The vision of Emmanual Health Education, Inc. is to create an environment that educate men, foster support  and engage in open dialogue about Prostate Health especially among African American Men throughout the  State of Maryland beginning in Prince George’s County and Edgecombe County, North Carolina as a result of  having the highest rates of incidents and mortality. 

Mission

 

Emmanual Health Education, Inc. seeks to provide a platform designed to deliver prostate health education,  increased awareness, research, advocacy, and prostate screening to decrease the rate of incidences and mortality due to prostate cancer. 

  • Provide awareness to assist individuals to make informed decisions about their health; esp. prostate   health and men’s health 
  •  Conduct and collaborate on research to identify causes that hinder men from getting tested and   participate in clinical trials to ultimately get resources to assist based on research findings 
  • Facilitate quarterly support groups that foster a comfortable autonomous environment among   prostate cancer survivors to share individual experiences 
  • Facilitate educational learning experiences about prostate cancer health in various community venues including but not limited to barber shops, beauty salons, community centers, faith-based centers,   theaters, and local agencies 
  • Advocate for legislation to support prostate cancer survivors, caregivers and issues around men’s   health 

Goals

 

Advocacy: Seek local, state and national government and philanthropy funding to support screenings and educational opportunities;  especially for African American Men to be held in difference areas of Prince George’s County, Maryland and Edgecombe County,  North Carolina. 

Education: Establish and partner with male support groups and community organizations to facilitate monthly or quarterly support  groups. 

Awareness: Host Annual Prostate Cancer Awareness 5K Walk, Run, Rides in North Carolina and Maryland, Prostate Cancer Survivors’  Gala and Film Screenings. 

Research: Partner with Dr. Keith Keene, East Carolina Brody School of Medicine Center for Health Disparities to collect, analyze and  distribute findings of grassroot research efforts addressing genetic aspects of prostate cancer among African American men along with attitudes, knowledge and beliefs about prostate cancer. In addition, continue partnership with Dr. Roland Thorpe, Director, Pro gram for Research on Men’s Health, Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions and Dr. Kevin Billups, Director of Men’s Health  and Professor of Medicine at Meharry Medical College, Nashville Tennessee.

Mr. William Battle is a highly driven health educator who over the past decade has engaged in the philosophical application of knowledge related to various health practices and issues that affects today’s society, he places a high priority on nutrition, chronic diseases, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and dimensions of wellness. Mr. Battle is currently an adjunct professor at Bowie State University in the College of Education, Department of Teaching, Learning and Professional Development.

Education Maven, Dr. Akeda Pearson is an awarded and results-oriented educational leader who has dedicated her life for the betterment of youth, women, men and families. With over 20 years in the field of Education and Christian Ministry, she has had the pleasure to provide exceptional instructional expertise to diverse school personnel, colleges, universities, faith based organizations and nonprofits.

Carrie L. Younger Britt

Mrs. Carrie L. Younger Britt is a professional registered nurse with 40 years of healthcare experience in case management and leadership.  Expertise in pediatric oncology, adult and pediatric homecare and adult disease management has allowed participation in developing a Primary Care Medical Home model with Medicaid (United Healthcare, BCBC CareFirst, Priority Partners and Maryland Physicians Care) and Medicare populations challenged with chronic conditions and social determinants of health that prevent optimal wellness. Mrs. Britt is a of St. Olaf College and studied at Howard University. As Director of the Visiting Nurse Association in Baltimore, MD she led an interdisciplinary team to implement a change in criteria for Medicare reimbursement based on homebound status, coordinated a team of physicians to evaluate Army veterans found to be unfit for military duty along with other leadership tasks. In addition, Mrs. Britt served as Program Manager. Being an advocate, health educator and coordinator of care for people is a passion that has developed into a calling to contribute to individuals with health disparities that prevent them from taking their health as a priority in their lives.  As an active volunteer in Howard County, MD she has served as Ministry Leader for Celebrate Recovery and Celebrate Recovery Inside (Maryland Correctional Institute of Women and the Howard County Detention Center).  As a member of Life For Christ and First Baptist Church of Guilford, she participates in Intercessory Prayer and Women Ministries.  Mrs. Britt is the proud wife of LCDR. Ret. Rodney Britt Sr. for 41 years with two adult sons and 1 grandchild.  Her purpose in life has been motivated by being a 38-year cancer survivor.
